With just a few simple ingredients and minimal effort, you’ll have BBQ-style ribs that taste like they’ve been smoked for hours. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or craving a comforting meal, this foolproof recipe ensures perfectly cooked ribs every time.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 racks baby back ribs (or spare ribs)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar (or broth)
  • 1 ½ cups BBQ sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Ribs

  1. Remove the membrane from the back of the ribs for better tenderness.
  2. Pat dry with paper towels and generously season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne (if using).

Step 2: Cook the Ribs in the Slow Cooker

  1. Place the ribs in the slow cooker, standing upright or layering if necessary.
  2. Pour apple cider vinegar (or broth) into the bottom of the slow cooker to keep the ribs moist.
  3. Cook on LOW for 6-8 hours (preferred) or HIGH for 3-4 hours until the ribs are tender and easily pull apart.

Step 3: Glaze and Broil for a Crispy Finish

  1. Preheat the broiler to high. Line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Mix BBQ sauce, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  3. Transfer ribs to the baking sheet, brush generously with the sauce, and broil for 3-5 minutes until caramelized.

Step 4: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Let the ribs rest for a few minutes, then slice and serve with extra BBQ sauce!

Notes

  • For extra smoky flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke to the slow cooker.
  • If you prefer sweeter ribs, increase the brown sugar in the BBQ sauce.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
