Description

This Banana Bread Pudding Magnolia is a rich, creamy, and comforting dessert made with ripe bananas, soft bread, and a luscious custard base. Inspired by the famous Magnolia-style desserts, this pudding is baked to perfection, delivering a caramelized top with a soft and flavorful center. Perfect for brunch, family gatherings, or a cozy night in!

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Pudding:

  • 4 cups bread (brioche or French bread), cubed
  • 2 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup melted butter

For the Topping:

  • 1 banana, sliced
  • ¼ cup caramel sauce (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Bread & Bananas

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  3. Place the cubed bread in the dish and sprinkle the mashed bananas evenly over it.

Step 2: Make the Custard Mixture

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugars, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  2. Slowly add the melted butter while whisking to incorporate.

Step 3: Assemble & Bake

  1. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread and bananas, pressing the bread down so it soaks up the liquid. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Top with sliced bananas and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.

Step 4: Serve & Enjoy

  1. Let the pudding cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  2. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with nuts for extra flavor.

Notes

  • For extra richness, substitute half-and-half for the milk.
  • If you prefer a firmer pudding, bake for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  • Serve warm with whipped cream, ice cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar.
